2018 AJRA President

Dear AJRA Competitors, Families and Friends,

My name is Brendan Bennett and I am excited to serve as your 2018 AJRA President.  I am a 16-year-old junior from Notrees, Texas.  I have been an AJRA member for 4 years and have been blessed to win 3 World Championships.  I am also a member of the “Tougher Than Ever” Region 2 Texas High School Rodeo Association.  In the THSRA, I compete in team roping as a heeler, tie-down roping and cutting.  I qualified in cutting to the 2017 National High School Finals Rodeo in Gillette, Wyoming where I placed 7th in the Nation as well as winning the first round.

Most people have never heard of Notrees, Texas, population 15 or so.  To give you some reference, it is 20 miles west of Odessa, way out in far west Texas.  Our family includes, my mom and dad, Stepheny and Kevin, my younger brother, Bryson and my baby sister, Brielee.  My dad has run the Henderson ranch which covers 115 sections in Ector, Crane and Winkler counties for 20 years. He is also a former AJRA contestant, as well as his younger brother and sister.  My mom was raised and continues to work on the family ranch in Winkler county as a 5th generation rancher.  My parents tell me that I have been a cowboy since the day I was born.  I was helping gather cattle on my own horse at the age of 18 months.  Since I was 8, I have been the one to drag the calves to the fire in the branding pen. With my dad’s guidance, I have trained some of my own horses as well as seasoned young prospects.  My mom is the integral part of my education.  She has homeschooled me since 5th grade.  My upbringing on the ranch has taught me the importance of honesty, commitment, patience and hard work.  I believe that these attributes will help me lead the AJRA to be the best association.

I would like to officially welcome each one of you to the American Junior Rodeo Association.  I believe this is going to be an outstanding year of great competition.  As your President, I want to be the voice of the competitors, your voice.  I welcome your ideas, comments and suggestions.  I am working closely with the adult President, Tony Dunn, the adult and youth Board of Directors and the amazing AJRA Secretary, Mary McMullan, to better the association.  I look forward to meeting new contestants, visiting with old friends as well as competing against the best of the best in the 2017/2018 AJRA season.  Good luck and God Bless.

 Sincerely,

Brendan Bennett
